[M] While growing a batch of Hosta 'Andrew', Tony Avent noticed the plants developed a green haze through the white leaf centers. The true 'Andrew' is a very slow growing hosta that holds its clean white leaf centers all summer. Tony named this new mutation in honor of Hans Hanson, who discovered and name 'Andrew' after his brother. Hosta 'Hans' emerges in the spring with snow white leaves circled by a wide blue-green margin. As the summer warms up, the white leaf centers begin to turn hazy green. While still slow, this green haze gives 'Hans' more vigor than 'Andrew'. The rounded, heavy foliage of Hosta 'Hans' is corrugated and fairly twisted, eventually forming a beautiful mound about 20" tall and 32" across. Blooms in early summer with short scapes of fertile, light lavender flowers.
