Originally introduced by epimedium expert Darrell Probst as Epimedium wushanense Spiny Leaf Form at the hefty price of $150. Tony Avent was so impressed by this selection of the rare Chinese species, that he gave it a proper name - 'Sandy Claws'. Large, lance-shaped leaves are edged with dramatic spines. The burgundy foliage is a beautiful backdrop for the wiry stems of large white and yellow flowers in the spring. By mid summer, the foliage turns dark green. Epimedium wushanense 'Sandy Claws' makes an incredible addition to the shade garden! Deer and rabbit resistant! Forms a slowly expanding clump.
