Hosta 'Top of the Mornin'
[S] A new hybrid from Don Dean that greets you with vibrant color and endearing character. 'Top of the Mornin' is the ever popular combination of bright yellow foliage and deep red petioles. It never gets old! The wavy edges, twisted foliage, and moderately strong leaf corrugation add a lot of additional character that most plants in this color combo lack. Many generations of carefully controlled crosses between laevigata, 'Urajiro Hachijo', pycnophylla, 'Liberty Bell', yingeri, and 'Pineapple Upsidedown Cake' went into creating this beautiful plant. Late season color is more chartreuse. Hosta 'Top of the Mornin' grows in a semi upright, flared clump just under one foot tall and 23" wide, with fertile lavender flowers on red scapes in late summer.
