[L] Many of Rick Goodenough's most impressive hybrids can be traced back to the large streaked Hosta 'Outrageous'. 'Chanticleer' is Rick's newest introduction from that line, with large, strong leaves that are soft, mossy-green and cupped gently at the base. The finish is semi-glossy, but the entire leaf surface is textured with big bumples and framed by an undulating margin. A thin coat of milky wax covers the leaf underside, which also flows part way up the center vein on the leaf top. Hosta 'Chanticleer' will form a large, commanding background plant that will highlight flashier plants in front, while bringing its own subtle nuances to the shade garden.
