[L] Meaning "yellow precious metal" in the Cherokee language, Dahlonega, Georgia was the location of the first gold rush in the United States...20 years before gold was discovered in California. Developed by Harold McDonell, Hosta 'Dahlonega' is the gold strike every hybridizer hopes for. Rounded, yellow leaves are deeply veined and moderately corrugated, forming perfect domes with gently ruffled edges. A complex hybrid of 'Maekawa', 'Choo Choo Train', 'Northern Exposure', and 'Manhattan', Hosta 'Dahlonega' forms a remarkable mound at least 22" tall and 50" across that blooms just above the foliage with near white, fertile flowers in mid summer.
