Hosta 'German Yellow Dragon'
[M] Christina Brinkmann has dedicated a lot of her work to hybridizing tetraploid hostas. To distinguish her tet hybrids from her other introductions, Christina's tets will carry the "German" prefix. 'German Yellow Dragon', a 'Proud Dragon' seedling, is the first of Christina's tetraploid hybrids to hit the market. Pointed, lightly rippled leaves are smooth, glossy, and emerge in the spring lemon yellow. By the time Hosta 'German Yellow Dragon' blooms in late summer, the yellow color has toned down a bit, but as expected from a tet, the thick, rubbery foliage still looks good. The strong, red scapes bloom with fertile lavender flowers. Like a dragon raring up to take flight, the red petioles hold the leaves in a semi upright mound.
